MENTOR SCHOOL MANAGERS AND MANAGE MENTORING PROGRAMMES IN SCHOOLS

By Cathy Fry

Ukhanyiso Ebantwini

South African principals face tremendous challenges leading and managing schools. To help overcome school headship overload, a structured mentoring programme can be of benefit and will allow for the creation of space for collective and distributed leadership as a way forward. Mentoring within schools promotes teacher retention and consistency among educators. Mentoring programs not only increase job satisfaction and help teachers to emerge as leaders within their schools, but also have a positive effect on student achievement and engagement.
